The model encompasses basic human functions, the normal development of coping strategies, the rationale for trauma intervention, and the human trauma response and includes a case example. The model of basic human functions involves adaptive capacity, acute factors, and a clinical continuum ranging from illness to health. The model of emotional and functional equilibrium is based on coping skills, physical health, education, past trauma experiences, social networks, acute trauma and victimization, financial problems, substance use, family discord, physical illness, work problems, and a function continuum ranging from dysfunction to self-actualization. A hypothetical model for the development of coping strategies is proposed, the hierarchy of human needs, emotional responses to trauma, and the process of recovery from trauma are illustrated. Crisis theory, crisis intervention, timing of the human response to crisis, and acute stress reactions are also covered in the training module. 7 figures
