Abstract
A table on circuit and district statistics covers the number of cases and the number of conviction orders, presentence reports, and reports on the sentencing hearing received and not received. The number of guideline defendants is tabulated by circuit and district as well. Data on primary offense and offender characteristics are shown for guideline defendants. Also shown are mode of conviction by sentencing year, circuit and district, and primary offense category. Sentencing information covers the type of guideline sentence imposed, type of sentence imposed by primary offense category, average sentence length by primary offense category, and average length of imprisonment by grouped primary offense categories and year. Data are also provided on fines and restitution, sentencing zone, and imprisonment rates of defendants eligible for nonprison sentences by select primary offense type. Seven tables cover various aspects of sentencing guidelines application, and one figure and four tables cover data on departures and sentences within the guideline range. Remaining tables and figures address drug cases, immigration cases, organizational sentencing practices, and sentencing appeals.
