These papers stemmed from the International Study Group on the Future of Intervention with Battered Women and Their Families, which involved 15 activists, practitioners, and researchers from America, Great Britain, and Israel. This group met in Haifa, Israel in March 1995. The chapters in this book are the result of the collective effort by the authors. Part I focuses on "Changing Societies." One chapter provides a comprehensive vision of global change in the broad arena of violence against women. This is followed by a chapter on how race has been removed from much of the U.S. debate on domestic violence and why this needs to change. Part II addresses "Changing Community Responses." One chapter in this section discusses new directions in institutional reform, particularly in health and child welfare, followed by a chapter that explores the expanded use of informal community-based networks to end violence against women. The third chapter in this section provides a vision for change within the Israeli Arab community, one that may also be applicable to other countries and communities. The final section of the book focuses on a variety of approaches to "Intervention With Survivors, Perpetrators, and Their Children." All of the authors share a common vision that multiple forms of change are required to address the social problem of violence against women. Chapter references and a subject index
