This document describes 1995 legislative changes made across the country in the area of family violence.
Abstract
The document includes an overview of family violence legislation, data on legislative trends, a state-by-state analysis of family violence legislation that was interesting or innovative, State domestic violence coalitions and State legislative contacts. The general categories in domestic and family violence legislation include: (1) definitions; (2) stalking; (3) full faith and credit; (4) protection order registries; (5) training; (6) task forces and commissions; (7) weapons; (8) custody presumptions; (9) domestic violence fatality reviews; (10) expanded protection orders; (11) insurance discrimination; and (12) funding. The National Council's Family Violence Project provides technical assistance related to State legislation and maintains a database of State family violence statutes which is constantly being updated.
