These two volumes present introductory lectures from the 49th International Course of Criminology organized by the School of Criminology at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and sponsored by the International Society of Criminology; the two themes of the course were crime and insecurity in the city and international organized and corporate crime.
Abstract
Individual papers examined crime and insecurity in urban areas, victimization and fear of crime in urban neighborhoods, crime and urban policies, and crime and fear of crime in Belgium. Additional papers focused on trends and prospects related to police, private police, and employee surveillance, particularly in the Netherlands; urban crime prevention; and the role of restitution and mediation programs as forms of restorative justice. Further papers examined structural forms of cross-border crime and organized crime, issues related to fraud in the European Union, the threat of transnational organized crime to democracy and the economy, dilemmas in researching corporate deviance, and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters in the European Union. Other papers focused on the policing of international organized crime in the European Union, efforts to address fraud in the European community, civil sanctions, and methods of addressing criminal corporations in the Netherlands.
