This Missouri 2000 Narcotics Control Assistance Program-Annual Report is a comprehensive evaluation of State and local projects that received financial assistance through the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Formula Block Grant Program.
Abstract
During this reporting period -- July 1, 1999, through June 30, 2000 -- the Missouri Department of Public Safety-Narcotics Control Assistance Program provided grant awards to 64 projects statewide. Financial assistance was provided to projects related to drug education, drug enforcement, community-based prevention, criminal litigation, treatment, supervision, crime laboratory enhancements, criminal records improvement, and data analysis. In addition to the projects funded through the authorized purpose areas described in this report, the program was also involved in three separate continuing initiatives designed to enhance current Byrne Program efforts. The three initiatives are the Missouri Methamphetamine Initiative, the Missouri Interagency Clandestine Lab Task Force Initiative, and the 1999 Analysis of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program in Missouri. The Narcotics Control Assistance Program places an equally high priority on the development and continuation of projects and partnerships that enhance a State or local unit of government's ability to implement aggressive responses to the public safety needs of their respective service areas. The program aims to implement progressive demand-reduction, community, multijurisdictional, judicial, correctional, analytical, and information-based response strategies to the public safety threats of crime and drugs.
