This volume includes 25 of the papers presented in two international training programs of the Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI).
Abstract
The reports were presented at the 108th International Seminar, January 26 to February 27, 1998, and the 109th International Training Course, April 13 to July 2, 1998. The presentations included in this volume are divided into two parts. Part One reports concern "Current Problems in the Combat of Organized Transnational Crime." Individual reports discuss, among other topics: recent trends in organized crime in Europe; threats posed by transnational crimes and organized crime groups; the evolution of drug trafficking in the Pacific Rim; and organized crime in India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Part Two reports concern "Effective Treatment Measures for Prisoners To Facilitate Their Reintegration Into Society." Among the topics discussed by reports in this section are: managing risk and reintegration potential; criminal justice and corrections in Finland; current trends in correctional programming in the United States; reintegration programs in Ghana, Hong Kong, and Thailand; and rehabilitation programs designed to prevent recidivism.
