Abstract
Results of the Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (ADAM) project demonstrate a decrease in the number of male arrestees testing positive for cocaine use from 1999 to 2000. Marijuana and cocaine continued to be the most widely used drugs among arrestees in Alaska with opiate and methamphetamine used to a lesser extent. A geographic cluster of abuse was found in the 99506 zip code. In this region 75 percent of male arrestees tested positive for drug use. Overall drug use prevalence rates varied geographically by drug type. The ADAM survey instrument has been expanded to collect data on drug dependence and abuse, and drug markets. This new data will be collected in the 2001 survey.
