Prepared by the ImpacTeen Illicit Drug Team, this report is designed as an overview of illicit drug enforcement statutes in effect in the 50 States and the District of Columbia. The laws discussed primarily regulate drug possession and sale penalties for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine and "selected club drugs." The authors state that the report’s purposes include: providing professionals involved in drug policymaking and research with current and specific sale and possession statute information, providing an overview of the variations between States regarding drug scheduling and the acceptance of medical uses for marijuana, and providing documentation of the variations between States regarding the penalties assigned in drug enforcement laws. For each State, uniform information is provided including a comparison between the State and Federal law penalties and scheduling, the specific scheduling for each of the enumerated drugs, applicable fines, sentencing guidelines, and a statement of the quantity of drugs required to qualify for a certain offense type. A fold out map of the United States is provided to give a visual aid regarding national variations in drug policy. The report information is current as of January 1, 2000.
