Abstract
The author of this book draws on her personal experiences and research to inform others of the means available to opt out of the game of "cat and mouse," a dangerous game played between a stalker and victim. In this game the victim is locked into reacting instead of being proactive but by changing identity a victim can take control of her or his life. The book is intended to guide the reader through the process of changing identity even in the age of modern computer technology. She emphasizes that to be successful it is necessary to pay attention to every detailed step of information given and not skip steps or be haphazard in any way while carrying out the process. Also, she emphasizes that each case is different and each victim should carefully think through and implement all areas covered in this book, plus more that may be unique to an individual's financial or social situation. Lifestyle areas to be addressed in detail when changing identity are discussed, including court-sealed name change, documentation, moving out of State, housing and utilities, former credit union and bank accounts, insurance, employment, driver's licenses, passports, the Privacy Act, protected change of social security number, keeping track of personal documents, income tax returns, credit history, and future finances. Appendices include recommended websites that address the phenomenon of stalking, United States Social Security Administration Policies, and case examples of individuals applying for a change in Social Security number.
