Following introductory letters from the Acting Director of the Executive Office for Weed and Seed and the U.S. Attorneys for the District of Utah and the Southern District of Georgia, 15 articles enumerate effective and successful Weed and Seed programs from around the country. The first five of these articles focus on effective law enforcement programs that target gang prevention; motor vehicle theft prevention; Federal, State, and local law enforcement coordination; radio interoperability; and community policing. The next six articles illustrate the effectiveness of Weed and Seed programs that focus on prevention, intervention, and treatment, such as the Kennedy Elementary Safe Haven program that provides community outreach services on parenting, social services counseling, and health and dental care. Also featured among these articles is the SeedTech Computer Lab of Santa Ana, CA, which teaches area residents the computer skills necessary to compete in the job market, and the Indianapolis Weed and Seed Youth March to End Violence. The final four articles in this section focus on effective programs targeting neighborhood restoration, such as the Kid's House program in Flint, MI, that offers an after school safe haven for children ages 5 to 15 years who live in the Weed and Seed area. Among the services offered at the Kid's House are field trips, homework help, and a family style meal. The second section of the magazine focuses on the sustainment of effective Weed and Seed programs and features two article describing sustainment efforts in Pittsburgh and Syracuse, NY. The final section presents exceptional Weed and Seed programs and personnel and offers tips on how to strengthen victim services within local Weed and Seed community programs. Exhibits
