FIVE SCENARIOS ARE DESCRIBED THAT WERE DEVELOPED TO TEST THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LESS LETHAL WEAPONS IN A REALISTIC LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTEXT.
Abstract
THESE SCENARIOS DEPICT 'THE ONE-ON-ONE' SITUATION, A BARRICADE AND HOSTAGE SITUATION, A SUSPECT FLEEING ON FOOT, AND DISPERSAL OF A CROWD. IN ADDITION, THREE PRISON SCENARIOS ARE DESCRIBED -- ASSAULT ON A PRISON OFFICERS, PRISON DINING AREA RIOT, AND PRISON RIOT WITH HOSTAGES. A GENERAL ANALYSIS WAS PERFORMED TO DETERMINE WHICH LESS-LETHAL WEAPONS WERE APPLICABLE TO EACH SCENARIO AND TO INDICATE AREAS OF INPROVEMENT IN TERMS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW LESS LETHAL WEAPONS.
