THE THIRD ANNUAL PLAN PRESENTED TO THE COMMUNITY BY THE METROPOLITAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE COORDINATING COUNCIL (MCJCC).
Abstract
THE BASIC GOALS OF THE MCJCC, CREATED BY THE GOVERNOR OF NEW MEXICO IN 1972, ARE TO REDUCE CRIME LOCALLY, IMPROVE THE DELIVERTY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY, AND DEVELOP INCREASED COOPERATION AND COORDINATION AMONG THE AGENCIES OF THE LOCAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND WITH THE COMMUNITY. THIS REPORT FIRST DISCUSSES THE BASIC AIMS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE MCJCC AND PRESENTS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE, INCLUDING A PROPOSED TIMETABLE. A GENERAL PICTURE OF MAJOR LOCAL CRIME PROBLEMS IS THEN PRESENTED AND COMPARED TO THE CRIME SITUATION AT OTHER GOVERNMENTAL LEVELS. FORECASTS OF INCIDENCE AND CLEARANCE FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS ARE MADE AND PRIORITIES ARE DISCUSSED. SOME OF THE AGENCIES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MAJORITY OF SERVICES WITHIN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE ALSO IDENTIFIED, AND THE NEED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES SYSTEM IS EMPHASIZED. THE LAST PART OF THE PLAN DISCUSSES THE FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR EVALUATION, THE STATE RESPONSE, AND PROPOSED ACTIVITIES OF THE MCJCC, WITH A SUMMARY OF LOCAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROJECT EVALUATIONS CONDUCTED SINCE PUBLICATION OF THE PREVIOUS PLAN. FOR THE 1974 AND 1975 CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACTION PLANS, SEE NCJ-13459 AND NCJ-19469, RESPECTIVELY. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
