DATA ON ACTS OF VANDALISM AND DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION ON OFFENDERS ARE REPORTED AS RECORDED IN QUESTIONNAIRES GIVEN TO RURAL OHIO HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORES.
Abstract
OVER HALF OF THOSE QUESTIONED ADMITTED TO HAVING COMMITTED ONE OR MORE ACTS OF VANDALISM (52 PERCENT: 68 PERCENT OF THE BOYS AND 37 PERCENT OF THE GIRLS). A HIGH PROPORTION (71 PERCENT) DID NOT VIEW THEIR ACTS OF VANDALISM AS CRIMINAL. SOME INFLUENTIAL VARIABLES INCLUDE FEMALES AS HEADS OF HOUSEHOLD, THE USE OF ALCOHOL, AND MARITAL STATUS OF HEADS OF HOUSEHOLD.
