PUNITIVE AND CASEWORK ORIENTED APPROACHES ARE OFTEN INEFFECTIVE, BECAUSE AN INDIVIDUAL'S DELINQUENT ATTITUDE PROHIBITS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP.
Abstract
AT HILLCREST AND PAROLEE HOUSE A THERAPEUTIC CLIMATE OF TRUST WAS ACHIEVED WITH HIGH-RISK PAROLEES, WITH MOST EFFECTIVE RESULTS. AN IMPORTANT IMPLICATION OF THIS WORK WAS THAT TRUST COULD BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER OFFENDERS, VOLUNTEERS AND CONCERNED CORRECTIONAL WORKERS. THESE TECHNIQUES OF TRUST FORMATION, UTILIZING PEER INFLUENCE, WERE SHOWN TO HAVE FEASIBLE APPLICATION FOR BOTH INDIVIDUAL CORRECTIONAL WORKERS AND AGENCIES. A NUMBER OF SUGGESTIONS WERE PRESENTED, THAT, IF IMPLEMENTED BY CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES, COULD RE-ORIENT THEIR APPOACH AND MAKE THEIR SERVICES MORE ACCEPTABLE AND THERAPEUTIC TO THEIR CLIENTS.
