THE NARRATIVE OF THIS POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT DESCRIBES THE WORK OF EACH OF 9 DIVISIONS, WHILE THE STATISTICAL SECTION COVERS OFFENSES, ARRESTS, TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, MANPOWER, AND THE DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET.
Abstract
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR IN THE SAN JOSE (CALIF.) POLICE DEPARTMENT WERE THE INSTITUTION OF COMPUTERIZED RECORDS SYSTEMS, A FILE PURGING SYSTEM FOR BURGLARY CASES MORE THAN 2 YEARS OLD, A SURVEILLANCE CAMERA PROGRAM FOR BUSINESSES WHICH HAVE HAD RECURRING ROBBERIES, A SECRET WITNESS PROGRAM WHICH ENLISTS THE HELP OF THE PUBLIC IN IDENTIFYING SUSPECTS, ARREST PACKETS TO STANDARDIZE PROCESSING OF INCUSTODY CASES INITIATED BY PATROL PERSONNEL, AND FIRST AID TRAINING IN CARDIO-PULMONARY RESUSCITATION. THE FIRST AID PROGRAM TAUGHT NOT ONLY THE BASIC SKILLS BUT ALSO ATTEMPTED TO INSTILL A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ABOUT THE ADMINISTERING OF FIRST AID. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN FORWARDED TO THE NATIONAL RED CROSS AND RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH OTHER POLICE AGENCIES. THE DEPARTMENT HAS 788 SWORN AND 232 NONSWORN PERSONNEL. ITS 1977-1978 BUDGET WAS $23,616,765. MAPS, GRAPHS, TABLES, AN ORGANIZATION CHART, AND PHOTOGRAPHS ARE PROVIDED. (GRL)
