THIS TRAINING FILM FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS ILLUSTRATES PROPER TECHNIQUES COMMONLY USED IN THE CLOTHED SEARCH OR SHAKEDOWN OF PRISONERS ENTERING OR MOVING BETWEEN OR WITHIN A CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION OR JAIL.
Abstract
PREPARED FOR BOTH LINE OFFICERS AND NEW RECRUITS, THIS FILM OUTLINES THE FIVE GOALS OF A THOROUGH BODY SEARCH: (1) PREVENTING THE INTRODUCTION OF WEAPONS, (2) INTERCEPTING CONTRABAND, (3) PROTECTING INMATES FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUG-RELATED PROBLEMS, (4) PREVENTING THE THEFT OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY, AND (5) PROTECTING INMATES FROM HEALTH HAZARDS. TOP TO BOTTOM SEARCHES OF THE BODIES AND CLOTHES OF BOTH MALE AND FEMALE PRISONERS ARE DEMONSTRATED, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE NEED FOR A THOROUGH, SYSTEMATIC, AND OBJECTIVE APPROACH TO EACH PRISONER AND ON THE NEED FOR CONSTANT VIGILANCE AGAINST BREACHES OF PERSONAL AND INSTITUTIONAL SECURITY. THE FOCUS, IN PARTICULAR, IS ON THE HAIR, MOUTH, UNDERARMS, AND GENITAL AND RECTAL AREAS, AS WELL AS SHOES AND THE COLLAR, SEAMS, AND BELT AREAS OF CLOTHES. SEE ALSO NCJ-57575.
