THE TREND TOWARD TREATING NONDANGEROUS OFFENDERS IN THE COMMUNITY IS THE FOCUS OF THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY THAT CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 450 CITATIONS DATED IN THE 1960'S AND 1970'S.
Abstract
THE MOVEMENT TOWARD COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONS IS THE RESULT OF GROWING DISENCHANTMENT WITH PRISONS AND THE VIEW THAT COMMUNITIES CONSTITUTE A MORE NATURAL SETTING FOR THE REHABILITATION OF MANY OFFENDERS. COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONAL ALTERNATIVES INCLUDE COMMUNITY TREATMENT CENTERS, HALFWAY HOUSES, WORK RELEASE CENTERS, AND DRUG RECOVERY CENTERS. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INTENDED TO DEMONSTRATE VARIOUS COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS BEING EXPLORED WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. (DEP)
