This National Institute of Justice Standard 0901.00 establishes performance requirements and test methods for reel-to-reel audio tape recorders and tape players used in the courtroom and ensures the interchangeability of magnetic tapes between recorders and between recorders and players.
Abstract
The standard specifies performance requirements for three types of units: those that only play tapes; those that erase, record, and play tapes; and those that can record and play tapes but not erase tapes or record on unerased tapes. Performance requirements pertain to user information, track designation, the tape transport assembly, the head assembly, input-output, and electronic characteristics. The test methods described may be used by prospective purchasers to determine whether a piece of equipment being considered for purchase meets the standard's performance requirements. Following a description of standard test conditions and test equipment, procedures are presented for testing the tape transport assembly, the head assembly, input-output, and electronic characteristics. 1 reference and 17-item bibliography.
