This report presents statistical and narrative information on women's receipt of support payments following divorce and separation and on support payments received for children of women who were never married.
Abstract
It also provides data on the award and actual receipt of alimony and child support and on property settlements for divorced women. Data came from surveys conducted by the United States Bureau of the Census. Results showed that as of the spring of 1986, 8.8 million women were living with children under age 21 whose fathers were not living in the households. Of the 4.4 million women who were supposed to receive child support in 1985, about half received the full amount due. Half of the rest received partial payment and half received no payments.
