Total arrests for 1992 (19,720) increased by 3 percent over 1991 (19,127). Arrests were made in 38 percent of reported offenses. Domestic violence incidents occurred most frequently on Sunday, and the most frequent hours of such incidents were between 8:00 pm and midnight. Children were involved or present during 51 percent of all domestic violence offenses. Wives and ex-wives were the victims in 31 percent and 3 percent of the cases, respectively. Overall, females were the victims in 83 percent of all domestic violence offenses. The number of domestic violence complaints with prior court orders issued against the offender decreased from 12,105 in 1991 to 12,051 in 1992. Alcohol and/or drugs were involved in 42 percent of the reported offenses. Persons aged 60 and over were victims in 3 percent of the cases. Domestic violence did not occur at a regular frequency, but when viewed as a ratio of its occurrence to a fixed time interval, one act of domestic violence would occur every 10 minutes and 4 seconds.
