GOALS AND STANDARDS FOR COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTIONS AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS ARE PRESENTED WHICH WERE DEVELOPED IN A PROCESS INVOLVING 1200 CITIZENS AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL AND 22 HEARINGS.
Abstract
THIS SUMMARY VOLUME DESCRIBES THE PROCESS USED BY THE MAINE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AND ASSISTANCE AGENCY, UNDER A LEAA GRANT, TO DEVELOP THIS COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF STANDARDS AND GOALS. IT THEN LISTS THE GOALS, WHICH ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL IN COMPANION VOLUMES. THIS LIST INCLUDES: 43 ITEMS RELATED TO COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION; 67 STANDARDS AND GOALS RELATING TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION, AND THE HANDLING OF JUVENILE OFFENDERS; 34 STANDARDS AND GOALS RELATING TO POLICE OPERATIONS, IMPROVED EDUCATION FOR POLICE, AND IMPROVED WORKING CONDITIONS FOR URBAN AND RURAL POLICE; 63 ITEMS RELATED TO IMPROVED COURT PROCEDURES, IMPROVED COURTHOUSE STRUCTURES, AND THE RECRUITMENT OF QUALIFIED JUDGES; AND 43 STANDARDS AND GOALS RELATED TO MODERNIZATION OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES AND GREATER USE OF COMMUNITY BASED CORRECTIONS.
