THIS ANNUAL REPORT COVERS THE JUVENILE COURT SERVICE WORKLOAD AND THE ACTIVITIES OF THE DIVISION OF COMMUNITY AND PREVENTION SERVICES, WHICH HANDLES PAROLE, PARDON, AND PROBATION CASES; NEARLY ALL CATEGORIES INCREASED.
Abstract
DURING FISCAL YEAR 1979 THERE WERE 10,151 PERSONS ON PROBATION UNDER SUPERVISION FROM CIRCUIT COURTS AND 1,103 FROM DISTRICT COURTS IN VIRGINIA, A 5.5 PERCENT INCREASE OVER 1978. THERE WERE ALSO 3,135 PAROLEES, A 4.2 PERCENT INCREASE, AND 8 PARDONEES UNDER SUPERVISION. THE JUVENILE SERVICES UNIT HANDLED 134,867 SERVICE CASES, OF WHICH 72.3 PERCENT OR 97,529 WERE INTAKE CASES. THE UNIT ALSO HANDLED FOSTER CARE REPORTS, PROBATION SUPERVISION, FAMILY COUNSELING, AND CHILDREN IN AFTERCARE SUPERVISION. THE STATISTICAL BREAKDOWN GIVES CASELOADS BY REGION.
