It provides 24-hour-per-day, 7-day-per-week coverage of 69,557 paved roadway miles, on which an accident occurred every 2.7 miles. The highway patrol arrested 145,292 motorists for speeding, an offense that accounts for approximately 18.9 percent of all known contributing causes of accidents.
