Abstract
Volume I presents guidelines to assist the county supervisors, judges, clerks of court, planners, and architects who work together to design, build, and allocate space within Wisconsin courthouses. This volume argues that good planning for trial court facilities begins with a recognition that some judicially related rooms and spaces ought to be seen as private areas and others as public areas. Account must also be taken of the need for special circulation patterns between private spaces and public spaces, the special operating procedures of the trial courts, and the differing needs of different-sized counties. Recommendations are provided on staff and space requirements for all the courthouses. Volume II contains an updated inventory of existing trial court facilities in every county in the State. It also compares existing courthouses against the standards developed in Volume I. An assessment sheet for each county courthouse is included to indicate the most significant judicially related physical characteristics of each courthouse. An inventory in the form prepared for each county is also presented. The inventory for Calumet County is presented for illustration. Tables and site plans are provided.
