A total of 437 rapes and 155 attempted rapes were reported through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program in Arkansas during the year. Victims were largely white and under 25 years of age. The youngest victim was age 3 and the oldest was 84. In most rapes, the victims and offenders were of the same race. About two-thirds of the rapes were reported to law enforcement agencies within 4 hours of the commission of the offense. Almost half of all the rapes were committed by persons unknown to the victim. In 13.7 percent of the rapes, two or more offenders were involved. More rapes occurred in July than any other month. Over one-third of the rapes were committed between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. About three-fourths of the rapes did not involve weapons. Over half of the rapes occurred in the victim's residence. Most victims received a routine medical examination. A total of 6 percent had received minor injuries and 9 percent were seriously injured. Most of the offenders whose ages were known were between ages 20 and 30. County-by-county rape statistics are provided.
